The application of queuing theory in disaster management

Abstract

In recent times, it has been found that there have been many cases of road accidents as well as the natural calamities. After facing such events injured people have to rush to hospitals where they should be attended quickly so as to save the life of such wounded people. Many Hospitals do not have the sufficient number of beds in ICU (Intensive Care Units) and hence they do not get the urgent attention and medical treatment to the patients. In order to get the attention and to save their life sufficient number of beds is needed.

In this research paper, we have studied the arrival rate of patients, service rate of servers, waiting cost of customers, idle cost of servers. By applying the queuing models like M/M/S/FCFS/∞/∞, it is suggested that optimal number of bed should be utilized in the ICU department so as to save lives of maximum number of patients as well as it should be economical for hospital.
