Abstract

The major lethrinid species available along Thoothukudi coast (Tamilnadu) are Lethrinus lentjan, L. nebulosus, L. ornatus, L. elongatus, L. microdon, L. mahsena, L. harak, L. ramak. L. conchyliatus, L. rubiroperculatus, Gymnocranius robinsonii and G. griseus. The study on maximum sustainable yield indicated that L. nebulosus is underexploited. The L, K and t0 value of L. nebulous were 79.9, 0.35 and -0.66, respectively. The K value of L. nebulous was relatively higher inferring slow growth rate of this tropical demersal fish species. The estimated total instantaneous mortality and fishing mortality of L. nebulous were 1.15 and 0.62, respectively. Recruitment of L. nebulosus was recorded throughout in the year, with two peaks in April and August.
