The present study was conducted in three districts of Kashmir valley viz., Srinagar, Bandipore and Ganderbal. The geese rearing areas in these districts were identified and surveyed in the year 2012 to document the existing status of geese. In all these three districts geese-rearing areas were mainly confined to the water bodies like Wular lake, Manasbal lake, Anchar lake, river Sind, Dal lake and Nigeen lake and their surroundings. District Bandipora had maximum geese rearers as compared to Srinagar and Ganderbal. Most of the farmers had small to medium flocks with only 9.68% farmers owning large flocks. The cinnamon coloured flocks were predominantly reared in Bandipora district, white-coloured flocks in Ganderbal and mixed flocks in Srinagar. The average male:female ratio in Kashmir geese flocks was observed to 1:5.
