Impact of Integrated Nutrient Management on some Quantitative and Qualitative Characteristics of Strawberry cv. Chandler

Abstract

The present investigation was conducted in Research Orchard, Division of Fruit Science, SKUAST-Jammu, Udheywalla, Jammu with the aim to study the influence of farm yard manure (FYM), urea and biofertilizer (Azotobacter) on some qualitative and quantitative characteristics of strawberry cv. Chandler. Application of full doze of nitrogen as urea augmented with Azotobacter resulted in the production of maximum number of leaves (20.88), crowns (3.15), total biomass (49.25 g), total number of flowers (29.41) and number of berries (22.62/plant). Highest chlorophyll content in leaves (2.98 mg/100 g fresh weight), fruit volume (16.98 cm−3), specific gravity (0.97), berry set (16.24%) and number of primary roots (28.13) was also observed in this treatment. However, this treatment showed no significant difference with the treatment wherein 25% recommended nitrogen was applied as FYM and 75% N as urea + Azotobacter. The duration of flowering, number of days from flowering to harvesting, root length, reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars recorded were 73.94, 29.90, 16.13 cm, 3.57% and 1.10%, respectively, in treatment wherein25%NasFYM+ 75% Nas ureawas appliedalongwith Azotobacter.
