Effect of some Physicochemical Parameters on Helminth Parasitic Prevalence in Coldwater Fishes of Dal Lake Kashmir, India

Abstract

Water samples and fishes (belonging to 3 genera) were collected from January to December 2012, to study the influence of environmental factors on the dynamics of parasitic infection. The prevalence of helminth parasites was correlated with water temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen (DO) of water body. In case of Adenoscolex sp. (Cestode parasite) negative correlation was observed with temperature which was statistically significant and showed positive correlation with pH. The Bothriocephalus sp. showed positive correlation with water temperature but negative correlation with pH and DO. The correlation between Diplozoon sp. and Clinostomum sp. with the physiochemical parameters was non-significant.
