Clinical evaluation of Cissus quadrangularis linn. on wound healing in caprine (Capra hircus)

Abstract

Cissus quadrangularis Linn. is known to possess anti-bacterial, antiulcer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and stimulatory properties. A clinical study was conducted to evaluate the wound healing activity of C. quadrangularis in caprine (capra hircus). Eighteen goats of different age and sex, presented with wounds, were divided into three groups of 6 animals each. In control group, the wounds were washed with normal saline whereas in rest two groups, the wound after washing with normal saline followed by the application of either 5.0 or 7.5% methanolic extract ointment of C. quadrangularis on wound. Observations were taken on 0, 4, 7 and 14 day in all the groups. The prepared ointments showed significant effect on rate of healing and complete healing was achieved in most cases by 14th day.
