Comparative performance of various chilli genotypes under temperate conditions of Kashmir

Abstract

Thirty chilli (Capsicum annum L.) genotypes were evaluated for their comparative performance at three locations in Kashmir viz. Shalimar, Shuhama and Haran. Observations were recorded for various maturity, morphological, yield and yield component and quality traits. The highest fruit yield of 97.16 q/ha was observed in genotype SC-114 followed by 84.63, 83.89 and 81.43 q/ha in SC-100, SC-106 and SC-107, respectively. The highest vitamin C content of 191.03 mg/100 g fruit was found in genotype SC-522 while extractable colour was maximum in genotypes SC-109 and SC-102 (183.64 and 180.50 ASTA units, respectively). Genotypes like SC-106, SC-618, SC-114, SC103, SC-109 and SC-107 appeared to be ideal for further testing under Kashmir agro-climatic conditions.
