Studies on Performance of Promising Hybrids in Comparison to Local Commercial Cultivars of Mango

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to study the performance of different hybrids in comparison to local commercial cultivar of mango maintained at HRC, Patharchatta GBPUA&T, Pantnagar Uttarakhand. The ten cultivars comprising 8 hybrids and 2 local commercial cultivars were considered for the study. The higher yield was observed in Neeluddin (14.66 kg per plant) and maximum number of fruits per plant in Amrapali (53.13 fruits per plant). The significantly higher fruit weight (307.55 g), pulp percentage (80.77%), fruit length (10.91 cm), T.S.S. content (21.24 “B) and shelf life (10.24 days) were observed in mango cv. Mallika. On the basis of vegetative growth parameters it was observed that hybrids namely Ratna, Amrapali, Neeleshan and Neelgoa showed dwarfing stature and may be considered for high density planting. Due to the higher pulp percentage, pleasant aroma and good quality, Mallika may be considered for its commercial cultivation in North India in addition to local commercial cultivars.
