Thoothukudi is one of the most important fishing area in Tamil Nadu with 163.5 km long coast line and encompassing a major part of Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve. In this region Lethrinids fishery was considered as an important demersal fishery resource. They constitute about 5.1% of the total fish catch with an average annual production of 1, 854 tonnes. Present study reveals the species composition of Lethrinid fishes from Thoothukudi coast categorized based on gear used for fishing, place of collection and month of occurrence, which can serve as baseline data for further research.
