In the present study, the sex ratio of oil sardine, Sardinella longiceps from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra was investigated. The month-wise sex ratio (Male: Female) varied from 1: 0.71 to 1: 1.42 with no significant difference in the distribution of sexes. The length-wise sex ratio ranged from 1: 0.50 in 130–139 mm length group to 1: 3.85 in 190–199 mm length group. There was significant difference in the distribution of sexes in some length ranges. The sex ratio for the entire period of study was 1: 1.09 (Male: Female) indicating a marginal dominance of females over males.
