Abstract

Abandoned cows (n=45) were examined by rectal palpation followed by TRUS. On rectal examination 43 different genital abnormalities were detected in 36 (80%) animals. More cows (n=39) with multiple abnormalities (69) were diagnosed by TRUS. Ovarian abnormalities were found in 16 and 19 (35.6 and 42.2%), oviductal and adnexal abnormalities in 2 and 11 (4.4 and 24.4%), uterine abnormalities in 14 and 21 (31.1 and 46.7%) and cervical abnormalities in 11 and 18 (24.4 and 40.0%) cows on rectal palpation and ultrasound examination respectively. In conclusion, compared to rectal palpation, the transrectal ultrasound examination is more useful in diagnosing and differentially diagnosing various pathological conditions of multiple organs in cattle.
