Use of mobile app and information communication tools by undergraduate students: A study in Tarai region of Uttarakhand

Abstract

Present study was conducted on undergraduate agricultural students of GBPUA&T, Pantnagar. A Simple random sampling was used for the study and a total 40 students of 2nd year were selected. Findings revealed that majority of undergraduate students were using net facility in the hostel to take information on various aspects. Total 87.5 per cent students were reading newspapers, followed by magazines (95 percent). All the students were using ICT for the purpose of entertainment as well as socialization. Majority of the students were preparing for SSC examination followed by Bank PO examination using ICT. Majority of students owned mobile phone of Samsung brand followed by Oppo, Micromax and Xioami Redmi. Mostly 90 percent students were using Android system in their mobiles followed by Apple and Window. Sixty five percent students were using more than 65 mobile apps. Majority of students were using utility app like clock, followed by translator, converter and calculator. All the students were using YouTube app and majority of students were using Whatsapp and Skype followed by Hike and Messenger, Shareit and Truecaller app.
