Abstract

Soybean seedling rot caused by Pythium species is a major biotic stress in USA. Among different pathogenic species of Pythium, Pythium irregulare was found to be more predominant and virulent. Realizing its economic importance, in the current study, 177 soybean PI lines were screened for tolerance to P. irregulare by employing Root Weight of Inoculation (RWI) and Ratio of Root Weight (RRW) indices. Genotypes, PI548635, PI518674, PI634910 and PI547809 were found to have high value of RWI and genotypes, PI548595, PI547800, PI634910 and PI547809 were found to have high value for RRW. These genotypes could be employed in mapping of tolerance to P. irregulare.
