Abstract

Blumeriella leaf spot is the most important disease of cherry worldwide. The disease appear as small irregular to circular purple red specks on the upper surface of the leaf, which enlarge and further coalesce to form necrotic patches. Progression in disease lead to yellowing and defoliation. The pathogen produce whitish cottony colony with submerged aerial mycelium that later turn greyish white become compact and radially furrowed. Acervuli (225-316^m) develop after 20 days of incubation, were partially immersed, having hyaline elongated and curved with tapering apex and round base conidia (38.12–45.19^2.12–4.16 ^m). Maximum mycelial growth was achieved on oat meal agar, whereas potato dextrose agar proved to be best media for sporulation of the isolated pathogen.
