Effect of seed priming with plant growth regulators on lentil (Lens culinaris L. Medik.)

Abstract

A field experiment entitled “Effect of seed priming with plant growth regulators on lentil (Lens culinaris L. Medik.)” was conducted during the rabi season of 2020–21 in the research farm of College of Agriculture, CAU, Imphal, Manipur, to find out the most suitable growth hormone and dose for lentil and economics of the treatments. The experiment was laid out in a RBD consisting of eight treatments replicated thrice. GA3 (250, 500 ppm), IAA (250, 500 ppm) and IBA (100, 200 and 500 ppm) were used as treatments. The results indicated that priming with different doses of plant growth regulators had significant effect on the growth, yield and economics of the crop. Among the treatments, priming with GA3 @ 500ppm (T3) proved significantly superior to other treatments in terms of plant height, fresh and dry weight of plant, number of root nodules, fresh and dry weight of root nodules, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, test weight, seed yield, stover yield and harvest index of plant. The treatment T3 was closely followed by T2 (Primed with GA3 @ 250ppm). Among IAA treatments, priming with 500 ppm showed best results compared to 250 ppm of IAA. Among IBA treatments, priming with 200 ppm showed best results compared to 100 ppm and 300 ppm of IBA. Where, control recorded the lowest values in all aspects.
