Effect of different sources and levels of sulphur on dry matter yield of cauliflower under temperate conditions of Kashmir

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of different sources and levels of sulphur on nutrient content, uptake and dry matter accumulation in cauliflower under temperate conditions of Kashmir. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with three sources of sulphur viz. elemental sulphur, gypsum, and single superphosphate (SSP); and three levels of sulphur viz 15, 30 & 45 kg/ha, and replicated thrice. The plots were given a uniform dose of N, P2O5, K2O (100:120:60 kg ha−1). Sulphur content, uptake, and drymatter yield were found significantly highest in plots receiving gypsum as compared to elemental sulphur and SSP; whereas, among the different levels of sulphur, 45 kg S ha−1 recorded highest values for nutrient content (NPKS) & uptake and drymatter accumulation. Application of sulphur @ 45 kg/ha in form of gypsum along with a recommended dose of NPK resulted in higher dry matter yield and nutrient uptake by cauliflower.
