Plant growth and nutrient uptake of mustard (Brassica juncea L.) as influenced by application of phosphorus and sulphur

Abstract

The experiment was conducted during rabi season of year 2022-23 at the Research farm of Kulbhaskar Ashram Post Graduate College, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh to find out the effect of Phosphorus and sulphur on plant growth and nutrient uptake of mustard cv Varuna. The experiment was conducted in Randomized Block Design with 10 treatments of varying phosphorus and sulphur levels and replicated thrice. The treatment T10 (P80+S60) showed maximum increase in height of 191.19 cm at harvest stage. The treatment T10 also showed maximum number of primary and secondary branches per plant. Higher nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium uptake was observed in the plots treated with T10 (P80+S60). Similarly higher nutrient content was observed in the treatment T10 with the application of Phosphorus and Sulphur at 80 and 60 kg ha-1, respectively. Similarly, higher Sulphur content and Uptake was observed in Treatment T10. In conclusion, T10 was superior in overall growth and yield of mustard with maximum number of primary and secondary branches per plant.
