Abstract

To study the effect of land-use systems on the physico-chemical properties of soils from different land-use systems, viz, agriculture, horticulture and forestry in the district Pulwama of Jammu and Kashmir. Total 210 surface and sub-surface samples were collected from seven different locations and were studied for physico-chemical properties like pH, EC and OC. Agriculture and horticulture land uses were slightly acidic to slightly alkaline but forests were acidic to slightly acidic in nature, but normal in electrical conductivity. Organic carbon was slightly low to medium in agriculture and horticulture soils but forest soils were rich in organic carbon. pH, electrical conductivity and organic carbon showed a definite pattern with depth as pH and electrical conductivity increases with increasing depth but organic carbon decreases with increasing depth.
