The study was conducted in District Srinagar of Jammu & Kashmir in the year 2022-2023. Cones were collected from Shankaracharya Reserve Forest in 3(three) different compartments with varying altitudes viz., 1555.5m, 1580.2m and 1644.6. A Total of five trees were selected (3 (three) from different compartment -with the aim to study the genetic variability in cone and seed characteristics. Results of the study revealed significant differences among the compartments of the selected Forest Reserve. Seed length (13.7 mm), seed diameter (7.8mm), seed weight (8.15g) was found highest for Tree 1 from Compartment- 12. Germination percentage was found highest in Tree 2 from Compartment-12 (40%).
