The rise of online education has changed the landscape of the Indian education system. It is becoming a ray of hope for the education sector in India. However, the academic development of students in Indian educational institutions through online education is hindered by a severe lack of digital infrastructure. This paper focuses on the impact of COVID-19 on the Indian education sector. Apart from the introduction and conclusion, this paper is divided into five sections. The first section analyses the historical background of online education in India. The second section of the article focuses on the impact of COVID-19 on the Indian education sector. The third section of the article examines various diverse arrays of initiatives undertaken by the Indian government to facilitate and promote online education for students in schools, colleges and universities during the pandemic. The article’s fourth section outlines the difficulties the Indian school system experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic and the steps taken by the government to address them. The fifth section of the article presents a comprehensive overview of the observations and experiences of these initiatives. Lastly, the article ends with a summary and conclusion.
