Health and safety issues with compressed air in mechanised tunnelling

This paper will address three different aspects of TBM cutterhead interventions in compressed air and their associated health and safety implications. Reference will be made in the paper to relevant standards and-guidance.

The three aspects are:

• Stability of the ground ahead of the cutterhead

• Safe TBM cutterhead entry procedures

• The actual work in compressed air.
