Water inflow has been recognized as one of the most important sources of damage to underground structures, and may lead to very high maintenance and refurbishment costs, as well as disruption of the service of the tunnel. Since tunnels are expected to last for more than a century, stringent requirements must be met during construction, especially when it comes to sealing and waterproofing systems. Waterproofing of underground structures and tunnels is of overwhelming importance for the long-term durability and effectiveness of the works and for the possible impact on the surrounding environment. Inadequate waterproofing techniques or improper waterproofing system installation can cause significant structural damage as well as expensive upkeep and renovations. Despite the installation of a waterproofing membrane, several tunnels continue to leak. Different method available for water proofing of tunnel required to be chosen on the use of tunnel, water inflows are discussed in this paper.
