Instrumentation and monitoring of tunnel T2 (Between KM. 33+212 TO KM. 38+375) of Katra to Dharam Section of Udhampur-Srinagar Baramulla New BG Railway Project

Tunnels are multi-purposes structures fulfilling several needs of the society. They are capital intensive structures and their failure can be catastrophic. Instrumentation for monitoring the behaviour of these structures both during construction and in operation is crucial from its safety point of view and is considered an important activity integral to the Project. This paper brought forward the instrumentation and monitoring scheme adopted for Tunnel T2 of Karta Dharam section of USBRL project. The paper also discusses the importance of planning and discusses various steps involved in designing any successful monitoring scheme for Tunnels.
