Preharvest Care in Kabuli Chickpea Grown in Black Cotton soils

Kabuli chickpea in black cotton soils suffers at various stages right from germination and need some of the special care other than those required for desi chickpea. Series of simple experiments were conducted to work out the agronomic package for Kabuli chickpea genotype PKV Kabuli-2 under black cotton soils. Presowing irrigation helped to maintain germination upto 84.8 per cent. Drilling followed by flood irrigation reduced the germination considerably. However, use of sprinkler irrigation has comparatively better results. Planting on ridges proved better than planting in furrows. Spraying 1.5% DAP at flowering and pod development improved the yield significantly. The irrigation after senescence affected the grain quality by decolorizing 16.45% kernels.
