Management of Plant Parasitic Nematodes Infesting Chickpea through Intercropping with Non-Leguminous Crops

Abstract

A field trial was conducted to study the effect of intercropping of three non leguminous crops, mustard, and coriander with chickpea in the ratio of 6:2 and linseed in the ratio of 4:2, and compared with respective sole crops in replicated plots. First year the highest population of root–knot nematodes was recorded from the chickpea + coriander intercropping. Rhizobium nodule population was found (15.4) at 45 days in chickpea + coriander intercropping. The highest yield obtained from sole crop of chickpea (1922kg/h). Second year highest population was recovered in sole chickpea and minimum in mustard-chickpea intercrop. Intercropping chickpea with mustard was found effective considerably in managing rootknot population and other dominent plant parasitic nematodes without any additional monetary returns in yield.
