Introduction of Insecticide Resistance Management Approach in South West Madhya Pradesh: An Interactive Component of Sustainable Cotton Cultivation Technology

Abstract

One hundred and forty cotton growers from ten villages followed by 2395 growers over fifteen villages of south west of M.P were evaluated on the basis of sixteen parameters used as criteria for introducing the insecticide resistance management approach. The findings revealed that ten out of sixteen parameters viz., summer ploughing, seed treatment with insecticides, installation of bird perchers, zero spray up to sixty days for bollworms, use of pheromone traps for monitoring, use of need based chemical insecticides, avoiding malpractice of cocktailing more than one insecticides, reduction of insecticidal spray, identification of insect pest and natural enemies and use of biopesticides, were implemented effectively. The outcomes of the study involved the motivation of farmers towards reduced consumption of pesticides, adoption of approaches to over come the problem of insecticide resistance, conservation of natural enemies and awareness regarding right chemical, dose, time and method of pesticide application to reduce the cost of cultivation.
