Many synthetic steroids including Hydrocortisone have been found to be mutagenic. Quite a large number of these are widely used as contraceptives by women folk in different parts of the world. The antigenotoxic action of vitamin B-complex was studied in human lymphocyte culture for anti mutagenecity assay. The median antigenotoxicity concentrations for curcumin in culture were 10mg/ml, 20mg/ml, 40mg/ml and 60mg/ml, for 48h of incubation. Sister chromatid exchange (SCE) and the level of Mitotic Index (MI) were scored as genetic end points taken with or without metabolic activation systems (S9 mix.). The concentration of Hydrocortisone used was 50ìg/ml. Data presented here indicate that vitamin B-complex is a potent antigenotoxic agent, against the Hydrocortisone induced SCE and MI in lymphocyte culture.
