Bisphenol-A Induced Changes in Enzymes Activities (GOT, GPT, ACP and ALP) in Liver and Kidney of Freshwater Fish Cirrhinus mrigala (Ham.)

Abstract

20 freshwater fishes Cirrhinus mrigala weighing 50±5 g were divided into 2 groups of five each. 1st group received fish diet only and served as control, while, 2nd group exposed with Bisphenol-A (2mg/l) and the enzyme activities i.e. GOT, GPT, ACP and ALP levels in liver and kidney were quantified on the 16th and 31st day. GOT level showed more significant increase in liver and kidney after 30 days of Bisphenol-A exposure. However, the hepatic and renal GPT levels were also increased significantly throughout the experiment as compared to control. ACP, ALP level were elevated significantly in the liver and kidney after 15 and 30 days of Bisphenol-A exposures. The effects were more prominent in later part of the experiment. This suggests that the Bisphenol-A impairs functional activities of liver and kidney of Cirrhinus mrigala by altering the enzyme activities. These effects are dose and duration dependent.
