Abstract

Application of 5kr, 10kr and 15kr of gamma rays and/or 0.02% of NMU (Nitroso Methyl Urea) on Khesari (Lathyrus sativus) var. P 24 was reported. Germination, seedling growth, plant height, pollen sterility, maturity, survival percentage and number of seeds per pod adversely affected in all the treatments. But simultaneous treatment of physical and chemical mutagens was more injurious than separate treatments of both mutagens. These mutagens differed with regard to their effect on germination, growth, fertility and number of seeds per pod, however, seed weight was promoted by both the mutagens. Certain morphological aberrations were induced in all the treatments as colour of flower, stunted growth, shortening of internodes etc.
