Abstract

This communication deals with mainly to examine the prevalence of ciliated protozoa associated with fresh water cladocerans from ponds of rural areas of Lucknow city. The observation of Daphnia infested with Gymnostomatida led us to hypothesize that predation by ciliates could be an important mechanism regulating cladocerans population dynamics. The results are discussed in terms of ecological aspects involved in this association.
