Screening Varieties of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Monech) against Important Insect Pests under Agroclimatic Condition of Allahabad (U.P.)

Abstract

Among seventeen varieties of okra screened against Amrasca biguttula biguttula, Bemisia tabaci and Earias vitella, the varieties VRO 3 and Kashi Pragati were found to be resistant to jassids infestation. In respect of whitefly infestation the lowest infestation were found in VRO 3 and VRO 4, Bhendi Vaphy, IIVR 11, VRO 3, EMS 8–1 showed minimum shoot infestation. Fruit infestation (Number basis) EMS 8–1 was recorded lowest infestedfruits whichwere followedby Punjab Padmini, VRO 3, Bhendi Vaphy, IIVR 11, IIVR 10, Kashi Pragati, EC 35638, IC 282273 and IC 282272. These varieties were statistically atpar with each other and graded as moderately resistant. Fruit infestation ranged between 8.18 to 22.06 per cent on weight basis and the least infestation was found in the variety VRO 3 followed by the varieties EMS 8–1, IIVR 11, Punjab Padmini, IIVR 10, Bhendi Vaphy, Kashi Pragati and EC 35638 showed significantly lowest infestation and graded as moderately resistant.
