Response of Different Boron and Sulphur Levels on Chickpea Based Mustard Intercropping System

Abstract

An experiment was conducted during the rabi of 2010 and 2011 on the Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, SHIATS, Allahabad to investigate the effect of Boron and Sulphur on growth and yield of chickpea under chickpea + mustard cropping system”. It consisted of four intercropping systems viz. sole chickpea, sole mustard, chickpea + mustard 4:1 and chickpea + mustard 5:1 put under six boron and sulphur levels i.e. control, borax 10 kg ha−1, boric acid 0.25% (three spray), sulphur 30 kg ha−1, borax 10 kg ha−1 + sulphur 30 kg ha−1 and boric acid 0.25% (three spray) + sulphur 30 kg ha−1. The experimental layout was factorial randomized block design with three replications during both the years of the study. Significantly increased dry weight, number pods per plant, number of grain per pod,100seed weight, grain yield q/ha and straw yield q/ha due to sole chickpea than intercropping of chickpea with mustard 5:1. Significantly higher dry weight, no. of siliqua per plant, 1000 seed weight, oil content was observed in chickpea with mustard (5:1 row ratio). This was followed by intercropping of chickpea with mustard 4:1row ratio. Borax 10 kg ha−1 + sulphur 30 kg ha1 gave the significantly highest dry weight, number pods per plant, number of grain per pod, 100-seed weight, grain yield q/ha and straw yield q/ha of chickpea followed by boric acid 0.25% trice spray + sulphur 30 kg ha−1. Minimum value of these parameters was recorded in control.
