An experiment was conducted to screen the mungbean germplasm for disease reaction to yellow mosaic virus. The inheritance of yellow mosaic virus resistance (YMV) was studied in crosses involving five susceptible (KM6 202, LGG 478, KM6 204, PUSA 9871 and K 851) and four resistant (Sonamung, KM6 220, KM6 201 and Samrat) mungbean genotypes selected from 50 genotypes. Highly susceptible cultivar for MYMV, K 851 was used as indicator-infector, also sown in experimental plot to increase the MYMV incidence. Susceptibility to mungbean yellow mosaic virus was dominant over resistance in the F1 generation of all crosses. Disease severity scored, 3:1 (susceptible: resistance) segregation in all crosses in F2 and F3 generations confirming that single recessive gene imparted resistance to mungbean yellow mosaic virus.
