Abstract

In the recent years due to the overuse and misuse of antibiotics and certain chemotherapeutic agents there is a great emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance. Even if the pharmaceutical industries were to step up efforts to develop new replacement drugs immediately, current trends suggest that some diseases will have no effective therapies within the next 10 years. This situation forced scientists to search new antimicrobial substances. Therefore there is a need to develop alternative antimicrobial drugs for treatment of infectious diseases from medicinal plants. As plant derived antimicrobials have enormous therapeutic potential and it also mitigate the various side effects that are associated with synthetic antimicrobials the use of plant derived compound in the new drug development will be a promising one.
