The present investigation involved the comparison of randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) profiles of the fish Notopterus notopterus collected from three different size reservoirs of Uttarakhand, India i.e. Haripura, Baigul and Nanak Sagar at the nuclear DNA variation level. From total bands obtained with fifteen decamer primers 69.95% bands were found to be polymorphic. Total genetic diversity (Ht) in the populations was 0.4547 (0.0046) and within sample gene diversity was 0.3907 (0.0108). The Co-efficient of genetic differentiation (Gst) indicated less genetic difference among the populations with a value of 0.1406 and number of migrants 1.2716 revealed limited gene flow (Nm) among the populations of these reservoirs.
