Hepatoprotective Effect of Momordica charantia (karela) on with and without Type II Diabetic Patient in Allahabad India

Abstract

Present study was undertaken to investigate the routine, hypolipidemic and hepatoprotective effects of extract of Momordica charantia.. The blood glucose level and glycosylated hemoglobin were significantly (p< 0.05) decreased whereas total protein content and hemoglobin content were significantly increased in diabetic human patients after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment as compared to diabetic control. There was observed general significant increased (p<0.05) in AST, ALT and ALP activities of diabetic test groups when compared to the corresponding normal control groups. Compared to the diabetic control there was significant decrease in AST, ALT and ALP activities of diabetic human patients administered fruit juice of Momordica charantia for 8 weeks. There was also observed general significant increased (p<0.05) in T.Cholesterol and Triglycerides activities of diabetic test groups when compared to the corresponding normal control groups. Compared to the diabetic control there was significant decrease in T.Cholesterol and Triglycerides activities. While significant decrease (p<0.05) in HDL of diabetic test groups when compared to the corresponding normal control groups. Compared to the diabetic control there was significant increase in HDL of diabetic human patients inistered fruit juice of Momordica charantia for 8 weeks. Thus, this study indicates that extract of Momordica charantia have favorable effect in hypolipidemic and hepatoprotective activities. The search for more effective and hypoglycemic agents has continue to be an area of research interest, because of the less side effects and easily affordable medicinal plants has, when compared to the synthetic drugs. Momordica charentia is a very virgin plant and promising base on these current findings.
