The soil constitutes one of the most complexes of microbial habitats in which many fungi complete their entire life cycle. Periodic survey for keratinophilic fungi (2009 to 2011) was carried out at various sites in and around Jhansi.Thirty four sites and 102 subsites were visited and selected for sample collection to determine the prevalence of keratinophilic fungi and non-keratinophilic fungi and dominant species. Chrysosporium pannorum and Chrysosporium georgii are most dominant and found to occupy 15–20% soil infestation.
