Tartrazine appears to cause the most allergic and intolerance reactions of all the azo dyes, particularly among asthmatics and those with an aspirin intolerance. Tartrazine sensitivity can occur by either ingestion or cutaneous exposure to the substance containing tartrazine are reported to occur most commonly in people who are sensitive to acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). Tremors, Convulsions, Diarrhea, Food Avoidance, Sluggishness and Abnormal gait were observed on exposure to sublethal dose of dye tartrazine in albino mice.
