Abstract

The study on the knowledge level on scientific fish culture of the fish growers’ of Shimoga district was conducted during the year 2011–12, covering a total of 150 respondents Pre-tested interview schedule was used for collection of the information from fish farmers. It was found that majority of the fish farmers (66.67%) had the medium level of knowledge regarding scientific fish culture practices. It was observed that fish farmers had good of knowledge in using good type of soil require for fish culture (98.67%) and lowest was observed in use of recommended dosage of lime (34%). The results of the correlation co-efficient analysis revealed that, the sociopersonal and socio-psychological variables such as size of land holding, social participation, and economic motivation showed positive significant (at 0.05 level of probability) & the variables such as, mass media participation in innovative proneness, credit orientation, value orientation, risk orientation and source of water showed high & positive significant (at 0.01 level of probability) with the knowledge of scientific fish culture practices of fish farmers. The results of the multiple regression analysis revealed that, among the profile characteristics studied, the variable mass media participation, source of water and size of water body were obtained as determining factor to predict the knowledge of scientific fish culture practices of fish farmers.
