Soil samples were randomly collected in 2009 to 2011 from selected sites of Jhansi vicinity.The study revealed the presence of 9 and 14 genera of keratinophilic and nonkeratinophilic fungi respectively together with 47 species, amongst them; the prevalence of Microsporumgeorgii (11.39%)was most dominant followed by Microsporumfulvum,Sporothrixs-chenckii (10.95%); Chrysosporiumqueenslandicum (10.55%); Trichophytonsoudanense, Neosartoriafischeri (10.42%); Chrysosporiumpruinosum, Chrysosporiumkeratinophilum, Trichophytonerinacei (10.15%); Microsporumgypseum, Chrysosporiumpannicola, Trichophytonverrucosum, Histoplasmacapsulatum, Malbrancheapulchella (9.75%); Chrysosporiumpannorum, Epidermophytonfloccosum (8.64%); Chrysosporiumindicum, Chrysosporiumtropicum (8.20%); Trichophytonmentagrophytes (8.7%); Chrysosporiummerdarium (7.30%), Chrysosporiumcarmichaelii, Trichophytonterrestre (6.65%) and Trichothesiumroseum (1.52%). And non-keratinophilic fungi viz. Fusariumpallidoroseum, (10.95%) was most dominant species followed by Penicilliumchrysogenum, Trichodermaviride (10.42%); Aspergillusterreus, Acremoniumkiliense (10.15%); Emericellanidulans, Ophiostomaindicum sp. nov. (9.75%); Fusariumsolani, Beauveriabassiana (9.0%); Aspergillusniger (8.64%); Fusariummoniliforme, Penicilliumcitrinum (8.7%); Alternariaalternata (7.30%); Choenophoracucurbitarum, Graphiumkeratinophilum sp. nov. (6.65%); Verticilliumpsalliotae (5.70%); Cladosporiumoxysporum, Cunninghamellaechinulata (4.72%) and Verticilliumalboatrum (1.52).
