Abstract

Fusarium udum, is a soil borne plant pathogenic fungus, causes Fusarium wilt specifically in pigeonpea. Pigeonpea is an important legume crop of rainfed agriculture in the semi-arid tropics. The Indian subcontinent, Eastern Africa and Central America are the world's three main pigeon pea producing regions. This disease is of worldwide importance and is particularly severe in countries with warm climate. F.udum secretes an enzyme such as cellobiohydrolase that contribute to the degradation of the structural barriers constituted by plant cell walls. Cellobiohydrolases are exoenzymes and crystalline cellulose releasing cellobiose. The structural details of the enzyme are helpful in developing efficient inhibitors. Even though F.udum is a dangerous plant pathogen and CBH is one of the potential weapons used by this pathogen to infect the plant system, the structural details of CBH of F.udum are not available in www.rcsb.org.
