Antagonistic Effect of Rhizospheric Mycoflora against Fusarium solani Causing Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) Root Rot

Abstract

The root rot disease of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) incited by Fusarium solani cause considerable crop loss in Saurashtra region of Gujarat. The fungal isolates of coriander rhizosphere were evaluated for their antagonistic effect against F. solani under in vitro study. Five fungal isolates were obtained from rhizosphere soils of coriander plants. Based on morphological and cultural characteristics, these antagonistic isolates were identified as Trichoderma viride-I, Trichoderma viride-II, Trichoderma harzianum-I, Trichoderma harzianum-II and Aspergillus niger. By means of dual culture method, they were examined for antagonism against F. solani, which causes coriander root rot. Two isolates were found to be evidently antagonistic to the pathogens. Among these isolates, maximum inhibition of pathogen (96.21%) was observed in the presences of Trichoderma viride-II followed by T. harzianum-II (90.58%) while Aspergillus niger was less effective with 60.44% inhibition.
