Correlation and Path Coefficient Analysis for Seed Yield and Its Components in Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

Abstract

The parent study was carried out association analysis of it attributing traits for 30 diverse genotypes of chickpea during Rabi 2009–10. The experiment as laid out a RBD with three replication 3 meter long single row plot spaced 30 cm apart. The plant to plant distance was maintained 10 cm by thinning at Agricultural Farm, Rajoula, Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya, Chitrakoot, Satan (M. P.). The estimates of correlation revealed that Seed yield showed highly significant and negative correlation with plant height at phenotypic level and number of seeds per pod whereas, significant and negative correlation with number of branches per plant genotypic level and highly signifîcant and negative correlation with number of pods per plant whereas, significant and negative correlation with number of seeds per pod number of pods per plant genotypic correlations were higher than phenotypic ones in magnitude for all the characters. Thc character which showe negative association at genotypic level also showed negative association at phenotypic level, and negative correlation with plant height number of pods per plant and number of seeds per pod path coefficient analysis indicated that the number of branches per plant 100-seed weight exhibited maximum direct effect on seed yield at genotypic level days to 80% maturity had positive but negligible direct effect whereas, days to flowering, plant height, number of pods per plant and number of seeds per pod exhibited negative direct effect on seed yield at genotypic level.
