Climate Change: In the Context of Socio-Economic Development of Arunachal Pradesh (India) - A Review

Arunachal Pradesh, being one of the remotest North Eastern Himalayan state in India, is hot spot of biological diversity. Owing to large variation in topography, there is an extensive and exclusive range of species richness and ecological diversity. These topographical variations also accounts for its sensitivity towards climate change. Since large dependency of its population on agriculture and forest for its livelihood, even a slight variation in climatic condition can have a major impact on socio-economic development of the state. Variability in the rainfall pattern & intensity, soil moisture & fertility, water stress conditions etc has been observed in the state. These variations have a major impact on the livelihood resources such as agriculture, livestock & allied activities and water resources in the state as well as the downstream life of the other states. In the context of food security, in upcoming years these climatic variations are going to put heavy inflationary pressure on agricultural produces. Therefore, an attempt has been made in this review literature to correlate the current and expected climatic variations with its impact on socio-economic conditions as well as on natural resources of Arunachal Pradesh.
