Inheritance pattern of Brown Plant Hoppers (BPH) was studied infour parents and their two F1’s and F2 populations of crosses between resistant and susceptible varieties in rice. The study revealed simple monogenic pattern (3 susceptible: 1 resistant) of inheritance for BPH resistance in both the crosses with resistance being controlled by recessive gene. The investigation of mode of inheritance of resistance in resistant varieties and determination of the allelic relationships of the identified gene helps in the integration of resistant genes with desirable genotype to develop resistant varieties.
