Abstract

Legumes are considered as the major source of protein and the attempts were made to improve the protein quantity and quality of legumes with various strategies and achieved a little improvement. In the present study comparative study on estimation of protein content of selected high yielding mutants in M3 generation was carried out with the objective to identify the potential mutants for protein content through lowrys method of protein estimation. Results revealed Significant increase in protein content in mutants (18.40–23.40) compared to control plants(18%) suggesting improvement in protein content can be achieved through induced mutation.
