The present investigation was conducted at Zonal Agricultural Research Station, V.C. Farm, Mandya, during Kharif 2011 with the objective to estimate the phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation, broad sense heritability, and genetic advance as per cent mean in F2 and F3 population of rice genotypes derived from the cross Jyothi X BR 2655 (Oryza sativa L.). The overall results divulged that there is adequate genetic variability present in the material studied. Panicles per plant, panicle weight and the number of grains per panicle showed moderate to high heritability and genetic advance in percentage of mean indicating that the scope of improvement for these traits by simple selection would be effective.
