Extent of Knowledge Possessed by the Paddy Growers about Farm Mechanization Practices

Abstract

This paper aims to study the extent of knowledge possessed by Paddy growers in Sindhanur and Manvi talukas of Raichur district with sample size of 120 paddy growers in Tungabhadra Project Area. The study results revealed that, the knowledge levels of farmers about various farm mechanization practices in paddy cultivation were 94.17 per cent of respondents had knowledge about the cage wheel, regarding to its mode of operation, frequency of use and up to what capacity (hp) of tractor used for different cage wheels. However, With reference to machine transplantation of the paddy the results revealed that, the method of preparation of seedling trays (80 trays/acre) and age of seedlings (14–15 days) to be transplanted. The suggests that, Paddy transplanting methodis gaining popularity in the region. However, its operation, specific requirements like mat nursery, trays etc all still in dwindling stage in the scientific community itself. Therefore, the Researcher and Extension personnel of the Development Departments should guide and advise the farmers about its advantages or even difficulties clearly.
