Field experiment was conducted at Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi, Gokak Taluk, Belgaum district of Karnataka state during the rabi season of the year 2011–2012 to study the effect of organic manures and inorganic sources of nitrogenon yield, quality, physic-chemical properties, nutrient availability of soil and nitrogen uptake by garlic (Allium sativum L.) cv. Vannur Local after the harvest of crop. Application of organic manures either farmyard manure or vermicompost in different proportions. Significantly higher bulb yield and sulphur content was recorded in 100% RDN through vermicompost and farmyard manure. However, significant improvement in physico-chemical properties and nutrient availability status of soil (N, P, K& S) after the harvest of garlic is due to application of 25%, 50%, 75% & 100% RDN through farmyard manure and vermicompost. These treatments also resulted in significantly highest nitrogen uptake by garlic was recorded in 100% RDN through farmyard manure and vermicompost.
