Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2012–13 to study the performance of pre and post-emergence herbicides on weed flora and yield of turmeric. The results revealed that pre-emergence application of metribuzin 0.7 kg/ha+ hand weeding on 45 & 75 DAP recorded significantly lower density and dry weightof grasses, sedges and broad leaved weeds with higher weed control efficiency which was on par with PE pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha+ HW on 45 and 75 DAP and oxyfluorfen 0.30 kg/ha+ HW on 45 and 75 DAP. Yield attributes like; number of rhizomes/plant and weight ofrhizome/plant, rhizome yield, harvest index and weed index were higher with pre-emergence application of metribuzin 0.7 kg/ha+ hand weeding on 45 & 75 DAP. Unweeded check recorded lower yield attributes and yield.
